Thank you for considering to donate.

On average, perennialte.ch handles over two million requests each day, with more than 40 gigabytes of outgoing traffic. Building this site to a standard at which it performantly handles this amount of activity, as well as resist faults and maintain consistently high uptime over several months, has not been easy and has taken hundreds of hours of personal time.

Maintaining functionality also continues to become more difficult as companies like Google and Reddit actively try to render alternative front-ends to their services unusable. Constantly monitoring service functionality, and if a particular service is impacted, deploying feasible workaround solutions as they are developed takes further time and effort, becoming a consistent strain over months. As an illustration, see the number of Nitter and SearXNG instances that ended up shuttering only a few months after being added, usually for a lack of updates or blocks by the upstream/original service, or sometimes simply disappearing.

I have made a personal commitment to not follow this pattern, and will maintain perennialte.ch for the long-term.

As donations should be spent prudently, I have spent significant effort also ensuring this site runs lean, minimising expenses wherever possible; the costs of running perennialte.ch are detailed in the following table as a quick overview.

Name Cost (in AUD) Frequency
Virtual private server (VPS) rental 27.49 Monthly
Domain registration (perennialte.ch) ~26.31 (15 CHF) Annually
Cloudflare subscription 0 (free) Monthly
Transport Layer Security (TLS) certificates 0 (free) Monthly

A domain name is required for the site to operate, and while self-hosting hardware is possible, downtime is usually more frequent (due to network or underlying hardware issues) so services are hosted on a VPS to ensure reliable access. TLS certificates are obtained at no cost using Let's Encrypt. Cloudflare's free plan is considered sufficient for the needs of this site.

All of this information has been made freely available on this page as donators have the right to see how an instance manages its finances. With this information available, donators are able to see how their contributions are spent.

Again, donations are greatly appreciated and will go directly toward covering these costs, which are funded majority out of pocket.
